Abstract

The modern era demands that society members who have good social skills like communication skills, interpersonal skills, decision making skills and learnt verbal and nonverbal behavior. These necessary skills can be developed through the modification in the current instructional strategies. From the past times teachers are heavily rely only on chalk and talk method. Now there is a demand of society to shift the teaching learning process to learner centered and this can be possible through the adoption of constructivism based instructional methods like inquiry-based learning. It is that learning, in which learners construct their concepts with framing questions, constructing hypotheses, designing and conduction of experiments, generation of explanations. All the phases of inquiry driven instruction utilize the social skills for collective working.

IMPACT STATEMENT

The review study was conducted on the title “INQUIRY BASED LEARNING TO DEVELOP SOCIAL SKILLS RESEARCH REVIEW”. The present investigation used the thorough analysis of research studies to show an important positive relationship between inquiry-based learning strategies and acquiring essential social skills. Empirical data suggest that inquiry-based learning increases communication skills by allowing students to communicate their ideas, actively listen to peers, and engage in meaningful discourse. Furthermore, the collaborative problem-solving activities inherent in inquiry-based learning promote teamwork, cooperation, and the capacity to deal with multiple views, which develops empathy and respect for others. The implications of study will assist teachers, curriculum designers, and policymakers in understanding the relevance of inquiry-based learning in developing social skills and preparing children for success in a quickly changing and interconnected world.

Dr. Kiranjit Kaur did M.Sc. (Mathematics), M.Ed. and Ph.D. (Education) from Panjab University, Chandigarh. She has cleared U.G.C (NET) in Education. Presently, she has been working as Professor in Education (Teaching of Mathematics), at Dev Samaj College of Education Sector 36-B, Chandigarh. She has 20.5 years of teaching experience at B.Ed. and M.Ed. level. She has guided more than 30 students for Dissertations of M.Ed. (Panjab University, Chandigarh) and more than 5 students for Dissertations of M.A.(Education), PGDEMA, PGDHE Courses of IGNOU, New Delhi. She has been contributing research papers to various National and International Journals. Till date 40 research papers has been published in various research journals of National and International repute.  She has presented papers at various National and International conferences, Seminars, attended Workshops, and delivered lectures and conducted workshops for in- service teachers. Her areas of interest are Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Guidance and Counseling, Lifelong learning, Teacher Education, and educational technology.

Ms. Sandeep Kaur, Research scholar at Department of Education, Panjab University, Chandigarh.  She did M.Sc. (Applied Physics) from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar; M.Ed. (Educational Technology) from Panjab University, Chandigarh and qualified UGC (NET) in Education. She has five years of teaching experience at B.Ed. level. She has attended various workshops and seminars at national and international level. Her areas of interest are Science Education, Educational Technology
